Ooopsy Daisy

I like this sequence of pictures, since it most accurately represents what was going on in the backyard the other day. I picked up this little scooter to help Talia learn to walk at Sears. (It was an awesome purchase, by the way - reg. $30, on sale for $6.) It goes awfully fast on the hard floors inside, so to give her a change of pace from the small patch of carpet over by the dog kennels, I moved it outside last week.

Talia loves it. She walks all over the place as long as my hands are touching her - I'm not actually holding her up or guiding her in any way, but she won't take a step unless she feels me touching her somewhere. If I'm not holding her, she will stand there all day, hanging on to the scooter - until she falls over. The first afternoon, she was lucky enough to have all of her falls broken by a poor, unsuspecting pup.

1. Here's how the day began. Bert, playing his usual role as Talia's shadow:

(Talia realizes there is a nice, soft pup to land on and begins falling backwards, landing on Bert.)

2. Bert, beginning to think there is some connection between Talia standing at the scooter and Talia, landing on his back and/or head repeatedly. He approaches cautiously from the side:

(Talia stops falling backwards and begins lunging to the side.)

3. Bert, taking a page out of Ernie's book and staying far away from his short-legged attacker:

(Talia senses there is no longer a safety cushion anywhere near her and opts to sit on her scooter.)

Crabby

Here's Tally, gettin' comfortable in her new sandbox from Grammie & Grampy. I can't believe she's so close to turning 1 that she's already getting gifts!!
Talia had some kind of an allergic reaction yesterday, we're not sure what the problem was, but we've narrowed it down to the paper towels we use, the baby oil we used on the cradle cap, or the grass at the field at the Ultimate park. We're leaning toward the grass, actually, as she's had exposure to the first 2 all week and her weird rash didn't show up until Friday morning - she wore her jammies to Ultimate Thursday night and Mommy did a lousy job of keeping her on the blanket.
You might think that an itchy rash and cream that stings when applied to said itchy rash might make m'baby as crabby as her new sandbox, but in true Talia style she managed to flirt and giggle her way through the day. She impressed the ladies sitting next to us at the restaurant last night by packing away an entire grilled cheese sandwich and huge fruit cup. Ah, our delicate little flower......

Small Potatoes Giveaway!!

These picts are of Talia, being foiled by her awesome Drinky Leash from Small Potatoes. No more mad dash to catch that sippy cup before it bounces off the floor at the mall! Woo-hoo!!!

I love, love, love Small Potatoes! Check it out here, they have so much cool baby stuff. Small Potatoes is currently doing a contest, the prize is one of their super sweet little dresses. I love them! Talia has one that she is about to grow out of, so I hope we win!

Cradle Crap

That's me on the left, Talia on the right. People tell me all the time that we look alike, and I just don't see it. However, even I can't deny that we look alike in these pictures. We both have our first ponytails in our hair!

I'm putting Tally's hair up because she has cradle cap, and the oily treatment is leaving her hair pretty slick and weird, like a bad comb-over. But the ponies are cute, so I don't mind!!

We're recovering from a great long weekend. Both sets of grandparents came in - Rainer kept those Grandpas busy building the deck, and Talia kept those Grandmas busy swooning over her adorable little face. And for the first time in 2 years, none of the grandparents were met at the front door by the attack of the chugs. Way to go, Bert & Ernie!! We're so proud of those boys!

Who Likes Short Shorts?

We like short shorts. Mostly because most capri pants end up being more like regular pants. Like mother, like daughter! We don't like sunscreen, but we put it on anyway. (Safety first, and all that.) At least it smells like the beach around here!

Talia loves the park and is getting more adventurous everytime we go there. Today was the first really warm day in a long time. Talia kept flopping over backwards to sun herself, and then would cry because the sun was in her eyes. What a goofball.

We're excited for Grammie & Grampy to come in this weekend! Talia can't wait to show them around the park. I hope Grammie is up for hours of swinging fun while Grampy helps Rainer build the new deck!!

Other Talia

Today Talia and I went to stroller class. Our stroller class is an exercise class at the mall. We do exercises at the benches and mingle with the mall-walkers. The mall-walkers get annoyed with all us Mamas, but they swoon over our sweet babies, so it all works out.

After class we hung out with our friends for a bit and then hit some sales. In one store, the saleswoman noticed Talia flirting with her and asked me how old she was. I said almost 10 months. She said "Just like my baby! Talia is 10 months today!" I was momentarily confused but quickly realized she has a Talia, too! To make things even more weird, Other Talia was named after a family friend whose nickname is Tally - just like Our Talia was named after her Grammie Tally. We also figured out that 10 months ago we were both at St. Boniface Hospital, welcoming our little Talias into the world. What are the odds of that?

I wonder if her little Tally is as cute as this monkey. I don't see how it could be possible - but I'm terribly biased!!! :)
